Exercising Your Dog November 14, 2009

Exercise is as important for our dogs as it is for us. While many pet owners may understand that puppies and healthy adult dogs need regular daily workouts, we must not forget that senior dogs will benefit from regular exercise as well. It’s very important for aging dogs to stay active.

Here are the key aspects of a great article from our friends at The Big Paw Blog with some tips on different activities we can do with our dogs to increase their exercise. They remind us not to forget that spending time exercising your dog can give you a healthy workout at the same time!

The article explains that dogs can adapt to strenuous exercise if they are allowed to train properly, just like humans. Exercise increases the capacity of their cardiovascular systems, keeps them at a healthy weight, and strengthens their bones and muscles. This is especially important for our FlexPet canine friends to avoid joint pain and osteoarthritis which can result from obesity.

Getting started:

If your dog has not been receiving regular exercise, begin with just a few minutes each day and gradually lengthen the exercise period. Before beginning an exercise regimen, have your dog checked out by the vet to rule out any health problems, such as obesity, or heart and lung problems that could make exercise dangerous.

Behavioral benefits to exercising your dog:
Like humans, their brains produce serotonin during and after exercise, which has a calming and relaxing influence. When they are cooped up all day, they may become restless and bored. Pent-up energy can result in undesirable behaviors such as chewing, digging, and excessive barking.
Weather can have an effect on your dog’s exercise regimen so here are some things to think about during the summer months:

Avoid strenuous exercise in the heat of the day and when the humidity is high. Dogs can suffer from heat exhaustion as easily as their humans can.
It"??s better to exercise in the early morning or evening, when the temperature is below 80 degrees and the humidity is below 30%.

Dogs with a heavy coat, obesity, or lung or heart problems, will feel the effects of the humidity sooner than healthy or shorthaired dogs.

Be sure the dog has plenty of fresh water and a place to cool down if necessary.
Here are some concerns during the winter months:

If the temperature drops below freezing, limit exercise unless your dog is used to cold weather.
If road salt is used on icy roads in your area, be sure to wash and dry your dog’s paws when you return indoors; the salt can burn your pet’s paws, and if they lick it off, it can make them ill.

Older dogs who are suffering from joint disorders such as dysplasia or arthritis may not have any interest in running after a ball, or even be fit enough for a walk. In many cases, FlexPet can help alleviate that pain so they can get back to normal and kick up their exercise regimen. The primary component of FlexPetis CM8 (cetyl myristoleate). Of all the ingredients in FlexPet, CM8 is the most powerful. CM8" functions in three different ways. First, it acts as a highly effective lubricant in the joints, muscles and other tissues, allowing them to move smoothly. Decrease or loss of morning stiffness is commonly noted shortly after commencing treatment. Next, CM8 functions as an anti-inflammatory. Relief from swollen joints is often seen after the 4th or 5th week of treatment. Third, it is also an immune system modulator, which can be effectual against autoimmune diseases, such as arthritic conditions. CM8 relieves joint pain at its source, reducing inflammation and irritation of the joints and tissues. This should allow your dog to run freely again within a short amount of time after starting FlexPet.

Here are some ways you can encourage activity in your older dog who suffers from joint pain.
Swimming offers older dogs an excellent cardiovascular workout and strengthens their bones and muscles without the jarring impact of walking or running. If your dog is not used to swimming, don"??t force him in. Coax him in gently and keep the first few sessions short.

Running next to you: If you are a runner or cyclist, this is a great activity you can do with your dog. Some dogs enjoy running alongside their owners while jogging or bicycling. Dogs need to be properly leash-trained for this athletic effort. There are contraptions available to fasten the dog’s lead to your bicycle that have breakaway leashes for safety.

Dog play parks: These are gaining in popularity. This is a park where dogs are allowed to run free and play. Your dog should be well-socialized toward strange people and other dogs before you take him to a dog park. He should have all his vaccinations, and be spayed or neutered to avoid unwanted romantic entanglements! Observe dog park etiquette, such as cleaning up after him (most parks supply bags for this purpose), and supervising his play at all times.

Dog owners will find that ensuring their dog has a regular daily exercise period will not only benefit your canine companion, but also have great advantages for the entire family!

What is Hatha Yoga? November 11, 2009

Hatha Yoga was introduced by Yogi Swatmarama in the fifteenth century in India and is derived from the Sanskrit words Ha for sun and Tha for moon. It is known to act as a liaison between the opposite negative and positive parts of a yogi’s system. It reached its present day fame because of the various types of Hatha being practiced in the West today, including ashtanga, Iyengar and Bikram. It is a physical practice that trains the body to eventually attain high levels of spirituality. Hatha is mostly famous for the various postures that are incorporated into the session along with the traditional breathing techniques. These postures allow the body to be toner, more flexible and possess more strength.

The main focus of Hatha is to accomplish equilibrium between the mind and the body. Due to this reason, yoga sessions are designed to integrate a number of asanas and pranayamas to accomplish a tough workout for both as well as tap into your hidden physical and mental capability. A Hatha session leads the practitioner through a series of postures, holding them for different periods of time and ensuring that all muscles of the body are warmed up and then exercised during each class. This provides a total body workout better than any aerobics or Pilates class can deliver, as most of the postures are very strenuous and demanding in nature, pushing the body to reach its utmost potential.

The other important part of a Hatha session are the breathing techniques incorporated into it. Yogis have to be very conscious of maintaining proper breathing along with achieving the postures. Certain classes break up periodically to let the yogis focus on their pranayamas. It is considered to be a fundamental part of Hatha as it enables the practitioner to accomplish control of the body and center the focus on the inner self. Proper breathing ensures a smooth transition to the meditation part of Hatha Yoga, which although is not mandatory, but many people opt to benefit from it as well.

Meditation during yoga induces a sense of peace and tranquility and assists in reaching the sub and super conscious levels, where all negative emotions are embedded. Upon reaching them, it is easy to program all the negativity and channel it into positive thoughts. In the Western world though the primary focus is not on the meditative part of Hatha, instead lies within the breathing and exercise aspects. That is the reason that the various forms of Hatha that have emerged direct the yogi through a tough routine.

The most intensive form of Hatha is probably Bikram Yoga, as in addition to leading the yogi trough demanding exercises, the yoga session is held in a very hot room with temperatures greater than 104 degree Fahrenheit. The high heat induces removal of toxins and calories get burned in excess. Ashtanga, which is another popular form of Hatha, leads its yogi through a flowing pattern of postures that utilize all body parts and promotes improved organ functionality along with creating a well toned and flexible body. Hatha provides agility, suppleness and energy to the entire body and replenishes all vital organs.

Cricket Tips: Goal Setting For A Successful Cricket Season November 10, 2009

One of the essential cricket tips I ever learned was that of goal setting. The ability to set goals and effectively motivate yourself to achieve them are two essential cricket tips and skills that will help you achieve success in any cricket season or sport.

Starting a cricket season without goals could be compared to batting blindfolded in the dark. What would be your chance of hitting the ball? It is essential to set goals at the start of the season to aim for: How many runs, wickets or catches will you takes? Giving yourself a target to aim for will help focus your mind and mentally prepare you for setting plans to achieve them.

If when you start your cricket season, you have no goals and aim at nothing; is it not unlikely that you will hit nothing and achieve nothing? If you haven’t set goals, start now and set yourself the goal to score 250 runs or take 60 wickets by the end of the season, then plan how you will do it.

To set effective goals there are a few things you need to know about yourself which will affect how you set your goals. You are affected by, the environment in which you live, your experience and knowledge, your attitude and dreams and visions for the future.

When you set your goals you need to decide what you want and when you want to achieve each goal. You should spend time writing down your goals and display them in a prominent position where you will see them daily to remind yourself to stay motivated and focused. Cross off your goals once they’ve been achieved, add new ones to ensure when you reach your goals, you can further them and take your cricket to the next level.

“Don’t set your Goals to low. If you don’t need much, you won’t become much”. – - Jim Rohn – -

I’m sure you will have come across the SMART analogy, with regards to goal setting. It contains the most important concepts to consider and adhere to when setting your goals.

Goals should be; Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time related.

For example it would be unwise to set a goal of scoring one hundred runs every week, it’s just not a realistic goal for the average person, unless you are Michael Vaughn or Ricky Ponting that is! As you would probably fail to reach this goal, your motivation would suffer and you might start doubting your cricketing ability.

Before you start setting your goals write a list of all the things you want to achieve; whether it would be your first one hundred runs, fifty wickets in the season or first catch. By doing this it will help focus your mind and motivate yourself to succeed.

Now set your goals, they need to be SMART and you need to set both short term and long term goals, and also daily goals, for specific match days. All successful cricketers set goals and prioritize them in order of importance.

By making goal setting a habit there is no reason why you cannot achieve your cricketing goals.

Preteen models should be very careful about their diet. This is because of the great significance of their growing age. In fact, preteens need be groomed under the care of their parents or guardians. Preteen modeling assumes more importance now than ever before. This is because of the growing market for products catering to the needs of children.

Hence, product and service companies are vying with each other to grab a better market share and child models representing the myriad of regional, racial and related identities are in great demand today. Seeing the success of some celebrity preteen models, more and more children and their parents show interest in modeling today. Child models should be careful about a lot of tings in their grooming and proper diet assumes much significance.

Preteen models should be careful about their grooming. As they are young children who have not attained sufficient maturity, the parents or guardians should take a keen interest in grooming them. Both the parents and the child should be well informed about the latest developments in the field across the world. Then only they can take the needed steps to keep pace with the changing trends. The required information they can gather through the media.

The Internet is a good source of accessing information regarding modeling. Also, modeling and lifestyle magazines can be of immense help. As modeling is becoming more and more regionalized, it is necessary to be informed about both the international and regional trends in the field. Preteen models should be associated with some modeling agencies in the locality and they should participate in whatever modeling assignments they can get.

Another thing the preteen models are to be careful about is to keep a good portfolio. A free online portfolio may also be arranged with the association of some leading modeling agency. This will facilitate the profile and portfolio of the aspirant being seen by the industry professionals and others related with the field. Special attention need be paid as to the quality of photographs put in the portfolio. This aspect should not be overlooked. It is of paramount significance that your portfolio photographs are of the best quality. Often, you may be tempted to put the easily available snaps that are handy for you. These easily available photos may have been shot in a haphazard and random situation and process and as such they may not be of the best quality and thereby may fail to showcase your best modeling accomplishments and features.

Wide Range of Magazines – Available !! November 9, 2009

The glossy covers and outrageous titles draw our eyes as we check out at the supermarket. Articles tell us how to lose weight, simplify our lives, and keep us current on important and unimportant regional and world news. This phenomenon is not exclusive to the United States, in fact, the world boasts over 200,000 different magazines, with an enormous diversity in readers and topics of interest. While we see the repeated themes that editors have determined lure readers, some topics are downright strange.

I know peanut allergies have risen dramatically over the last decade, but have you picked up a magazine recently to read about squid sensitivities? A travel magazine can show you where you can sleep in a beagle shaped bedroom. Fitness magazines tout that exercise can help you lose weight, but can make you gain weight as well. Alien sightings have long been popular magazine and tabloid topics, and have now progressed to underwater aliens. There is the newly discovered vegetarian spider. Magazine articles note the hot new trend in furniture made from live shrubbery. Have you read that dogs and babies are some of the newest teaching tools in today’s classrooms? These are just a few of the topics you may not have expected to find in current magazines.

The magazines that ruminate on these topics are as varied as the topics themselves. Marking the aging population of Americans has the surprising largest circulation in the United States. Magazines like Better Homes and Gardens, Sports Illustrated, TV Guide, and Cosmopolitan are top US sellers while some of our national favorites have been also been wildly successful abroad. Readers Digest is the most popular magazine in the world, and is being printed in 19 languages with over 25 million subscribers. National Geographic is constantly broadening its reader base, recently launching National Geographic Kids in Indonesia, for a total of 18 international editions.

While there are magazines that target international markets with universal issues, regional and special interest magazines also abound. The most popular magazine in Asia is a regional small business publication called SME Entrepreneurship Magazine. I won’t venture to guess what local is targeted with some of the more unusual publications, like Varmint Hunter Magazine, or Miniature Donkey Talk. No topic is off limit, with magazines such as Girls and Corpses, a disturbing juxtaposition of young women and skeletal remains, and Modern Drunkard, for "functional alcoholics" who the rest of us might term populations in denial.

The prices of these magazines are as varied as the subjects covered, from free publications to the world’s most expensive magazine, Nomenus Quarterly. Limited edition might be an understatement for this folio of previously unpublished images, with a whopping circulation of 10, at a record-breaking subscription price of $6,500.

So, if you are looking for a magazine subscription on a particular topic, no matter how bizarre, you may just be able to find it! You may be able to read about it in over a dozen languages. If you don’t speak a foreign language, just pick up Mome (French), Kinder (German), or Chicos (Spanish) that are published especially to teach you. An amazing variety of magazines and articles worldwide are waiting to be discovered.
